Whooooos Having a Baby?

We had a shower at our house on May 12 to honor Joann and her coming baby, Clara Clementine Boswell -- due July 27.

It was mostly family with some close friends.  Lots of fun!

Little miss Evie is looking forward to meeting her new cousin.
The youngest guests at the shower gathered close to deliver gifts to Joann and watch the fun as she opened them.
The owl cupcakes really made a hit with everyone....

Grandpa enjoyed his little granddaughters, Evie and Katie -- out on the deck.  He wasn't brave enough to really attend the shower!
...and Samwise loved those sweet little muffins!
Clara's boy cousins, Donny, Jack and Beniah, spent most of the time playing games on the I-phone while the rest of us were watching the gift opening and visiting.

Here's the sweet new Mama...

Owl be seeing you!

Of Family and Pirates

my "Bethie" and me --

My two grand-daughters, Katie and Evie -- precious little girls!!   ...outnumbered by the 6 grandsons, but soon to be joined by another little girl.   A new cousin, Clara will be born late in July!

Arrrgh, Maties!!   It's Pirates!!!

On April 28 we got to see "Pirates of Penzance", performed by Tumwater High School, and directed by none other, than our own daughter, Joann!  They did a fabulous job, and we enjoyed the show immensely!

Here is the beautiful Mrs. Joann Boswell, director of the show, with her husband, Matt.

...and Little Miss Evie isn't really reserved, but she's pretty cute!  (don't you agree?)

After the show, some other "pirates" took over the stage.  'Better look out!  Some of them look pretty scary!!
Joann and Matt'  Kim with Donny and Samwise;  Heather and Timmy with Beniah and Elijah;  Jim and Marie with Evie;  Christi;  Zella and Kathy.

Kimberly and her little Shirelings:  Donny "almost 5!", Evie - 3, and Samwise - 10 months.

Cute Kids

Life is full of surprises.  But don't let them get you down!

Some bunny loves you!

"There were 3 in the bed, and the little one said, 'roll over'!"

Budding mechanics

... and the race is on!

"Press any key -- where is the any key?"

"Have fun storming the castle!"
Sometimes a different perspective helps.

April Birthdays

April was the birthday month of some very special people in our family.  It started with Evie's third birthday on April 1st.  We loved celebrating with her!
Evie is Three!!

"Blow out the candles!  I want a cupcake!"

She had a lot of fun too!

Evie, Elijah, Beniah, Katie, Donny, Jack, Great-Grandma & Samwise

Then on the 20th we celebrated the birthdays of Matt Twist and Heather Whittaker (birthdays on April 17) and Andy Shire (April 19).

All the kids gathered around to watch the opening of gifts.  Even Evie got a late gift.
"Happy birthday to us!"  Andy, Matt and Heather

It wasn't Katie's birthday, but she got a great pair of PINK cowboy boots from a cousin.  Nice!!

SO....  who has the next birthday?  These parties are fun!

Vinegar Pie!!

Have you ever heard of Vinegar Pie?

I was reading a book set in the mid-1800's, and the woman baked a vinegar pie. I'd heard of it before, but was intrigued enough this time to go online and look it up. Vinegar Pie was a pie that pioneers made in the winter when the dried fruits had been depleted. The pie is suppose to have a rather fruity flavor. I found several recipes, and decided to make one. I didn't tell the family what it was until after they had tasted it because I was afraid they wouldn't want to try it.

I wouldn't classify it in my favorite pies, but it wasn't bad. I may even make it again and try one of the other recipes.

Hmmm.... vinegar pie. Who knew?!
